The Private Side of Lewis

What a weird week.

Well it was a strange week. First off I went to Amy's play Sunday, I enjoyed it a lot. Then Monday night my car was robbed, right in my driveway overnight. They stole two CD players, a few CDs, my medication out of the glove box, stuff like that. Was I ever ripping. As soon as I realized it the next day I went straight to the police station. Not like it'll make much of a difference, but hey, that's what the system is there for. So let's see, Tuesday night, went to ball hockey, scored a garbage goal but hey, a goal is a goal. Wednesday night, was on my way to trivia and stopped at the bank to make sure i had enough money for my car insurance payment the next day, and i was 60 dollars short. I had a $30 cheque from the Cadre, and 15 in my wallet, but it wasn't enough, so i had to borrow a bit of money. Just barely made it.

Thursday, was going to meet Amy, but turned out she couldn't make it so I relaxed for a couple hours before work. Didn't do much of anything Thurs night, i was pretty tired. Friday night, out to Sarah's cottage in South Rustico for Ryan's birthday. I took James with me and i mapped the route, really had no idea where I was going. I did a whole loop around Cymbria (Syria) and a 20-minute drive took over an hour. But we got there and it was a blast, Jamie nearly had a concussion after Donnie nailed her in the head playing charades. We were pretty worried for awhile. James, Laurette and i ended up staying the night at her place, it was a fun night.

Saturday morning, car wouldn't start, so i got a boost from Jamie. Went home to sleep for a couple hours before work (didn't go to bed till 5:30 or so), then when I went to go to work, she wouldn't start again. I did a little "recce" and determined that the battery was completely shot. So, i had to call into work and tell them i couldn't make it, since there was no one around to boost me or give me a ride. Later on i trekked over to Crappy Tire and got a new battery, 94 bucks, not too bad.

Then today I test-drove another Neon, same year (97), but with only 67 000 clicks on it! 67!!! And he only wants $2000. This is an opportunity I will very likely never have dropped in my lap again. So I gave her a good inspection, took her for a spin, and everything seems to be in tip-top shape. 4 brand new tires, new brakes, and a great ride. Needs no body work at all either. And once the Hustler dies, i can use it for parts on the new (red) version. Maybe I'll continue the legacy and call it the Lady in Red. We'll see.

Pretty good week.

The first few days of the week were status quo, then Sam Roberts Thursday night, what a great concert. And yes believe it or not I do remember most of it. Friday night Ben and I hung out, that was pretty good, since we didn't get to spend much time together the rest of the week. Saturday was the Miller party and I must say it was one of the better ones. People actually showed up, everyone seemed to have fun, good times. Except for getting shot in the head with a Roman candle. That still hurts a bit. Meh, all in good fun. Lots of pictures uploaded from the party. I wish I could post the interview with Nevin a.k.a. Bubbles, so funny.

Ben left Sunday afternoon and I spent a few hours out home for once. It was nice to just kick back and relax out in the sticks, no internet, no cable, just relax. Work today was decent, class was boring, Cadre meeting provided a few laughs as usual, and curling was pretty good. My balance is getting better... lol. I'd say Ryan's still needs some work.

Well, I have a big paper that I haven't started, I should probably get on that. We may be in the middle of strike mode next time I post, strike vote tonight and tomorrow. We'll see what happens.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

Quite the day.

The Good: I'm now the Sports Editor for the Cadre. I was already planning on submitting my resume to the Guardian tomorrow, so it's pretty good timing.

The Bad: Just got word that Pastor Dwight has resigned. Not a huge shocker, but a surprise nonetheless. Dwight is a great guy and it's too bad the way things ended for him. Hopefully he can get some things in his life straightened out. I'll miss him.

The Ugly: Damn migraines! I've had this one since last night. Honestly, I've been getting them practically every second day since the fall. I thought I'd beaten the migraines a couple years ago, but obviously not. Hopefully I'll become immune to them or something.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday at the Wave was pretty good. Felt great to be out with Ben again, good times were had by all. The party next weekend should be pretty good. Hopefully people will actually show up, seeing as Ben's going back out for another 4 months at least, and Justin is going on a 5-year contract to Gagetown. I realize people may not see these guys around as often as they used to, but at least show some respect for people you've known for so long. Who knows when you'll see them again.

The Boys Are Back In Town!!

Well, not boys, i guess. More like one. Ben got in tonight on a week's leave, i'm pretty excited, should be an awesome week. Other than that not a lot is going on. This week was pretty lax, no classes with Bulger, skipped one or two others. Got the British exams back, 80%, not too bad, especially the way she grades them. Went to a mardi gras pancake thing at the chaplaincy centre, that was pretty sweet. Covering some basketball this weekend.

Next week, should get a couple of tests back, Leo Broderick's in Wed. night, should be interesting, probably get run out on a rail. Also St. Patty's on Friday, with Miller home, that should be a blast.

Well I better go. Got some unfinished business to take care of.

What a week!

This week was crazy. Ben and Justin left Monday morning, and it was a rough couple of days after that. I was still feeling pretty sick, and I barely went to class at all.

Then on Wednesday... the Cadre hit campus. With the Mohammed cartoons, of course. I'm not going to get into this again, but it's been three days of constant media presence, phone calls, heated debate, accusations, anger, national news coverage, legal issues, ultimatums, and threats. In other words, stress. And it's just beginning. The media fallout from this whole process has been and will be extensive, to say the least. Our next issue is going to lay the gauntlet all over again.

It's been a long, interesting, frustrating, stressful week. Thank God it's over. For this week, anyway.

And hey, Brodie actually agrees with me!

Good times

We clawed our way to Moncton in that blizzard Wednesday. Once we finally decided we were going, we ended up getting to the Theatre about 8:05, only five minutes late. Not too bad. anyway, Ron James was awesome, more than worth the drive. A lot of his stuff is rants and they're hilarious, but almost impossible to remember. But he had some good stuff, i was laughing so hard i nearly fainted, maybe that also had something to do with me not eating all day. I was so desperate for food when it was over that i had to snatch Justin's chocolate bar to tide me over for a few minutes till we could find somewhere to eat.

Oh btw, Justin wanted to go to a strip place really bad... he just would not shut up. I refused to go, and Ben wasn't keen on it either, so we were going to drop off him and Brian, and we'd go somewhere else, but Brian wanted more people along, can't blame him. So the resistance held. We went home.

Thursday was a normal day, nothing big there, just the usual busy insanity that Thursdays bring for me. Then Friday night was the business/biology pub crawl, kind of a send-off to Ben, and i suspect he did some sending off of his own, we'll wait and see. Started at the Wave and ran into Tasia, took the bus to Moron's, the Millers and Dee met us there, got a free pitcher of beer, went to the Cellar (never heard of it before), it was ok, then to Velvet, and now I KNOW why i've never been there before and never again will, then back to Moron's, which wasn't too too bad, but Ben and Brian enjoyed it more than i did, i can tell you that. We met up with Rydawg at Jack's and he took me to my car at UPEI, i was sobered up by then. And word is that the other two boys of the Tripod went home with the girls... oooooo.

Anyway, soon time to go to work. Then cover a basketball game. Then go out to the mess with the boys, meet this Kristy girl the evil twin's been talking about. Then Ben leaves Monday. Well, I got to go.

Ben Miller, you're good stuff, buddy.

I guess it's time to modificize this here thing for all my loyal fans, huh? Alright then. Let's do it. The election was a success. Somewhat. I mean, a minority of 21 seats isn't all that flattering. Oh well. I was afraid people putting an X on their ballot would get these mental pictures of Harper with horns and go back to the crooks. But nope. All is well on the politico front.

It's been a sad time for all of us with the passing of Ryan's dad. Billy, we miss you, and may God bless your soul. Ryan & family, you're always in my thoughts and you know that i'm here anytime you need anything. May God be with you during this time. You've got lots of support, just call anytime you need it.

Finally, there's The Night. The Night of Wayne the Drunk Hitchhiker. Lordy, lordy, no boredy here. In a night that included the Dublin, Moron's, driving a drunken Christine Clark home, driving Ben's kick-ass new Sentra (except for the trans), and hitting up Ripley, Petey Pete, the Crapaud village crew and others, Wayne topped it off. He made it worth getting home sober (sober all night) at 5 am.

Which brings me to Miller. Old Benjamin was on good-guy mode all night. Driving home a girl he barely knew, backtracking halfway there, picking up a hitchhiker at 3:30am who could have "beat his head to a bloody pulp" and driving everyone else home. Ben, you're good shit buddy. It's going to be rough when you go. We gotta hang out this week. Moncton will be fun stuff. But Wainwright is a great opportunity you don't get very often, make the best of her bud.

Sorry for the long post, that's what happens when Lewis gets lazy and doesn't fill in his loyal audience...
